- Susan and Meredith came to a conclusion that Paul's story was fiction. But, Susan thinks Meredith is hiding something.
- Susan is very pensive and doesn't understand why Paul would have wanted someone to read his manuscript during this year, years after his death. I think it was for the next fader to read it and not make silly mistakes because he did say he would try to protect the next fader like his uncle Adelard didn't.

- Ozzie is the new fader!

- Paul reminisces about the fade and how at first it was uncontrollable. There were many occasions where he had to excuse himself because he was going to fade. After a period of time, the fade began to "diminish" Paul.
- Paul begun to hate the fade. " 'The hell with the fade,' I cried repudiating this thing that had entered my life like something evil" (221).

- The manuscript about Paul was sent to Meredith by Lionel many years before Susan found it. Paul sent it to him before his death. Meredith says that she is very troubled by it. Even though it doesn't seem so real, Meredith recognizes some of the people mentioned.
- Meredith has received a letter in the mail from her grandfather who was an investigator and Paul's family. He told her that the manuscript was fiction because fading isn't real.
- Besides the evidence they tried to give Meredith about the manuscript being fiction, she believes Paul was telling the truth.
